Recent announcements from the Steel Reinforcement Institute of Australia and Federal Anti-Dumping Commission have confirmed that Australia is the target for a large amount of steel mesh reinforcing steel from China - given the surplus capacity China now has following its residential construction downturn.
There is a real risk that significant amounts of uncertified steel mesh is entering the Australian Market - priced well-below quality steel.
All purchasers and receivers of reinforcing steel mesh must:
If possible, purchase steel from an SRIA Member (ALL SRIA members hold current
JASANZ accredited 3rd party certification to prove their mesh conforms to AS/NZS 4671)
Request the ACRS certification for their steel mesh prior to delivery to site and store this in their Digital Quality Management Systems.
Ensure that they inspect mesh on receipt to ensure that:
The markings on the steel match the certificate
The tags on the steel match the certificate
Maintain records for compliance purposes.
