35-story Dubai apartment cladding fire

Alarming footage from a 35-storey building on fire in Dubai has placed the spotlight on cladding on the outside of the residential apartment complex.

Flames raced up the side of the tower after the inferno began at about 2:20am on Tuesday near the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa.

A resident of the complex – 8 Boulevard Walk – told Associated Press authorities were due to replace the cladding after another tower suffered a similar fire on New Year’s Day 2015 but the material on the side of the building had not been replaced.
