Concrete Under Pressure: The Costly Mistakes We Make from Cement to Placement

Concrete quality is not determined by one test, one person or one stage of production. It is the result of hundreds of decisions made across the entire supply chain from cement and aggregate production through material storage, mix design, batching, testing, transport, pumping, placement, finishing and curing.
In this presentation, Carlos Duque examines the common mistakes, misconceptions and quality-control gaps that occur throughout the concrete-production process. Using practical industry examples, he will show how seemingly minor issues such as variable raw materials, incorrect moisture corrections, poor batching accuracy, uncontrolled water addition, inadequate sampling, transport delays, pumping changes, over-finishing and insufficient curing can combine all contribute to creating major performance, durability and compliance problems.
The session will consider residential, commercial, civil and major infrastructure applications, highlighting where responsibility is shared between material suppliers, concrete producers, laboratories, contractors, supervisors and…
